JTHOOR respects the privacy of its users and gives special importance to protecting the data of children and their families. This policy explains the types of data we process, the purposes for which we use it, how we protect it, and the choices and rights available to users and parents.
This policy applies to the JTHOOR app for Arab families around the world, which offers Arabic language and Islamic studies for levels 1 to 6.
JTHOOR is an educational platform for students and their parents. A child's account is created and managed inside the parent's family account, and any self-registration passes a simple in-app verification challenge that confirms an adult is present before it is completed.
We do not ask a child to provide personal data that is not necessary to deliver the educational service.
We collect the data needed to deliver the service, namely: the name or educational name used on the platform; account and sign-in information (email and password); the student's level; and learning data — activity results, attempts, time spent, and level of progress and mastery.
We may collect additional data only when a specific feature is enabled: the notification token (Push Notification Token) when notifications are enabled, the conversation text when using the “AI Teacher” feature (detailed in section 5), and subscription data when you purchase through the store (detailed in section 6).
Microphone: some activities let the student record their own voice while reading or pronouncing a word, to listen to themselves and practise pronunciation. The recording is processed on the device itself for immediate playback only, and is never uploaded to our servers or to any third party. Microphone permission can be declined in the device settings; all other activities keep working.
We use the data to the extent needed to operate the platform and present suitable content to the student, to save their progress and learning results, to personalise the learning experience, to let the parent follow their children's progress, to activate and verify the subscription, to run security functions and prevent account misuse, and to send necessary notifications when they are enabled.
We apply additional protection to children's accounts and seek to collect the least amount of data necessary to deliver the educational service.
We do not use a child's data for targeted advertising or behavioural marketing, and we do not make it available to unauthorised users. A parent may exercise the rights relating to their child's data in accordance with applicable laws and the account's creation method.
One explicit exception: if a student takes part in a competition inside the app, the other participants in that same competition see a nickname and an emoji the student chooses, and their score — not their real name and no other information.
JTHOOR is classified as a “general education” app in which children's accounts are managed within the family under a parent's supervision, not within Apple's “Made for Kids” category, because the decision to subscribe and to manage the account rests with the parent, not the child.
We do not sell personal data and do not share children's data for advertising purposes.
We rely only on the following technical service providers, each of which receives only the data needed to deliver its specific service:
AI Teacher: an optional chat feature the student opens themselves to ask for an explanation or a hint. With each question, the question text and the lesson title are sent to Groq to compose a suitable reply — with no name, email or any personal identifier — and Groq does not retain the requests (per its API terms of use).
Tracking the student's progress and recommending the next step happens entirely inside the JTHOOR learning engine on our servers and is not sent to any third party. The student's AI Teacher conversations are stored with us so the dialogue can continue across sessions, and are deleted when the account is deleted (section 9).
The app currently contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools (no Google Analytics or any similar library).
The current release is entirely free: this version of the app contains no in-app purchases or subscriptions, and all lessons are open. The terms of this section apply once subscriptions are offered in a later release, and we will notify you inside the app before that happens.
Subscribing to JTHOOR happens through the official purchase mechanism of the app store on your device (Apple App Store or Google Play). The store processes the entire payment; we never receive or store your card number or any financial payment data.
What we receive from the store is only what is needed to verify and activate the subscription: the transaction identifier, the purchased plan, the subscription start and end dates, and its status (active, expired, cancelled). We keep these records for as long as accounting and the law require.
A subscription may also be activated with an activation code provided by a school or a sponsoring organisation; in that case we record only the code used and its activation date.
We use technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encrypted connections for data in transit, access-permission controls, database-level access policies, and restricting access to data according to the user's role and their relationship to the student.
Nevertheless, no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.
We keep data for as long as needed to deliver the service, or for as long as the law or the security of the platform requires.
When an account is deleted, we delete the data linked to it or make it impossible to link to the user, except what must be kept for a legitimate legal obligation (such as financial transaction records).
Depending on the account type and permissions, the user or the parent may request access to personal data, or its correction or deletion.
Account deletion can be started inside the app via: Settings → Delete account.
We also provide a way outside the app to request deletion of the account and its data, through the account deletion page.
⚠️ Deleting the account does not cancel an auto-renewing subscription in the store; cancel the subscription from your account settings in the App Store or Google Play.
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the entity responsible for processing your data (the controller) is Edumize Educational Services (section 13).
Our legal bases for processing:
In addition to section 9, you have the right to restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority of your country of residence.
Your data may be processed on our service providers' servers outside your country of residence. For this we rely on the standard contractual safeguards our providers offer for international data transfers.
The app may send educational or account-related notifications when the user grants permission. Notifications can be disabled at any time in the device settings.
We may update this privacy policy as JTHOOR's services develop or as legal or regulatory requirements change. The date of the last update appears at the top of this page, and we will give appropriate notice if the change is material.
